The 2018 Volkswagen Jetta is a compact sedan that pleases owners with its choice of three available turbocharged four-cylinder engines that run smoothly and deliver a great ride. The Jetta GLI has a 2.0-liter engine that’s a pleasure to drive in the open road. The Jetta handles well, and the interior is nicely laid out. The roomy cabin has more space than some midsize sedans. These are some of the reasons the Jetta is such a popular model with Riverside Volkswagen shoppers and at Volkswagen dealerships throughout the country.
Two new trim levels are added to the Jetta lineup for 2018: the Wolfsburg Edition and the SE Sport. The Wolfsburg Edition adds sophisticated amenities such as faux letter upholstery, while the SE Sport comes with black exterior trim, a black interior and a rear spoiler. Most models get a new chrome grille and new wheel designs. Also new, Volkswagen doubles its warranty. The Jetta now comes with a 6-year, 72,000-mile comprehensive warranty.
Consumer Reports wrote: “The Volkswagen Jetta appeals to the buyer who wants plenty of space, solid feel and a European driving experience. … it's a solid, competent and well-rounded sedan with good driving dynamics, roomy interior, easy controls, and competitive performance and fuel economy — all of which make it very competitive in its compact sedan class.
The 2018 VW Jetta comes in six trim levels, listed as S, Wolfsburg Edition, SE, SE Sport, SEL, and GLI. Powering the S, Wolfsburg Edition and SE trims is a 1.4-liter inline-4 engine that’s good for 150 hp and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. The SE Sport and SEL are equipped with a 1.8-liter inline-4 that generates 170 hp and 184 lb.-ft. The GLI is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 that develops 210 hp and 207 lb.-ft. of torque. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard on the S, Wolfsburg Edition and SE. The Sport and SEL get a six-speed automatic that’s optional on the others, except the GLI, which gets a six-speed manual. The Jetta gets up to an EPA-estimated 28 mpg city/40 mpg highway with the 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine with the manual transmission.
With 15.5 cubic feet of trunk space, there’s plenty of room to store cargo. Inside, the driver and passengers are treated to the clean design reminiscent of an Audi. All trims but the S get an adjustable center armrest in the front seat, and the windows can be opened and closed with one touch. The seats are upholstered in V-Tex Leatherette, and all trims come with an excellent stereo system with a touchscreen.
Safety equipment that comes standard on the 2018 VW Jetta includes a full complement of airbags, active front head restraints, traction control, stability control, antilock disc brakes and a rearview camera.
